Spotlight on UWC Public Health Research
We’re proud to celebrate Tinashe Zigomo, a PhD student at the UWC School of Public Health, whose proposal on “Barriers and solutions to accessing essential breast cancer medicines in low-resource settings” received a positive review from the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp, Belgium as part of their PhD Light Review process.
His mixed-methods study investigates the pharmaceutical, economic, and policy challenges limiting access to breast cancer treatment in Zimbabwe, with a focus on addressing these challenges with practical, equity-driven solutions.
Tinashe’s research is co-supervised by Prof Renier Coetzee (UWC) and Prof Raffaella Ravinetto (ITM), and reflects the strong and ongoing collaboration between UWC and ITM in strengthening pharmaceutical public health research and capacity on the African continent.
In a time when access to essential medicines is both a public health and social justice issue, this work highlights the critical importance of pharmaceutical public health in achieving equitable health systems.
Congratulations, Tinashe. We look forward to the impact your work will make!
