Centre Manager

We seek a candidate with a proven track record in pharmacovigilance and a strong capacity for leadership and innovation for the role of Centre Manager.

You will be expected to:

• Set up and manage the CoE infrastructure and systems.
• Lead its strategic activities in collaboration with key stakeholders, in particular the CoE’s Scientific Board.
• Participate in the development of training, research and communication activities.
• Coordinate all activities being implemented by the CoE.
• Identify funding opportunities and draft grant applications.
• Provide oversight of the assets, resources, administrative and financial activities of projects funded by the CoE.
• Report on activities, outputs and impacts and compile technical and financial reports as required.

Eligible applicants are required to have:

• Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Public Health, or a related field, with a specialized focus on pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, or similar disciplines. A PhD will be advantageous.
• At least 5 years relevant experience in pharmacovigilance within sub-Saharan African.
• Proven leadership and strategic management skills, with at least 2 years of senior management experience.
• Established network in public health, pharmacovigilance, and pharmaceutical sciences across multiple levels.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Experience in training and mentorship.
• Proficiency in English. Fluency in an African language, French or Portuguese will be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel within Africa and internationally for short periods.
• Successful grant writing and publishing in peer-reviewed journals will be advantageous.
• Background in pharmacy, medicine or other health science will be advantageous. 

The position will be for an initial one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years in total, depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

We seek a candidate to fill the role of a postdoctoral fellow with the Centre of Excellence for Strengthening Health Products Safety Monitoring across Southern African countries (CoE). The purpose of the CoE Postdoctoral Fellowship is to contribute to:

• career development in health systems research, with a specific emphasis on pharmacovigilance and pharmaceutical public health;
• building the field of pharmacovigilance with partners in South Africa, regionally, and internationally;
• enhancement of the capacity of the CoE, the UWC School of Public Health and the UWC School of Pharmacy. 

Eligible applicants are required to have:

• completed a PhD in Public Health, Pharmacy or a related field in the last five years, with a focus on pharmacovigilance or pharmaceutical public health. For applicants who did not obtain their qualification in South Africa, a valid SAQA certificate should be in hand at the time of application.
• citizenship of a sub-Saharan African country or be an expatriate African. Preference will be given to South African citizens or permanent residents.
• experience and expertise in qualitative and quantitative research skills, literature reviews, research prioritisation within the area of pharmacovigilance or pharmaceutical public health
• experience working as part of a team.
• strong academic record with evidence of research experience and peer-reviewed publications.

Advantageous skills

• Project management experience.
• Experience organising and facilitating online and face to face workshops and engagements.
• Experience with social media or other communication formats.
• Background in pharmacy

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to contribute to the research, capacity development and information and communication activities linked to the CoE, and will participate in relevant SOPH Research meetings. Any teaching and supervision workload will be in accordance with relevant university and funder policies.
