UWC Celebrates Tarryn’s Global Achievement in Pharmaceutical Public Health
Tarryn Jeftha, a Master of Public Health candidate at UWC, was awarded a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Pharmaceutical Policy Systems course at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Belgium, as the only South African participant in the 2025 cohort.
The School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape proudly celebrates this achievement, which reflects both individual excellence and the strength of UWC’s international collaborations. The course convened global pharmacy professionals to explore key issues in pharmaceutical regulation, procurement, and access, with a focus on strengthening people-centred systems in low- and middle-income countries.

Tarryn remarked, “We don’t buy products, we buy health, and we pay for the outcome,” capturing a core message that aligns with UWC’s values of equity and accountability in health care.
The programme also featured contributions by Professor Renier Coetzee, whose expertise brought African perspectives to global policy dialogues. His leadership demonstrates how academic collaboration can advance pharmaceutical systems across the continent.
This milestone is a testament to the growing partnership between UWC’s School of Public Health and ITM, building future public health leaders who are committed to equity, access, and innovation.
