Her work is at the intersection of public health and social medicine and examines the relationship between sexual orientation, gender identity, health and the law. She is most interested in how legal frameworks shape health knowledge, health inequities and pathways to care. Her work supports evidence-based advocacy, including strategic litigation that tests the constitutionality of colonial sodomy laws in Botswana and Malawi. She works closely with local Southern African civil society organizations, and has consulted for WHO, UNDP, local Ministries of Health, and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre.Discussant: Josephat KakomaGlobal Health ConsultantJosephat is a global health policy executive with 20 years' experience and is currently supporting several global health organisations as a consultant. He was part of the inaugural cohort of Africa's CDC's prestigious Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Development fellowship programme and has also participated in the Univeristy of Toronto Dala Lana School of Public Health's Executive Course on Global Health Diplomacy. He was previously Executive Director of the Africa Constituency for the Gloabl Fund (ABC), an African continental global health policy think tank that supports Africa's engagement in Global Health Initiative (GHI) governance bodies. Josephat's experience spans global health policy, organization development, and institutional strengthening and program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Academically, Josephat has a Bachelor of Arts in Public Management (with a minor in Development Economics) from the University of Zambia, a Master of Public Health from the University of Manchester, UK, and a Master of Arts (MA) in Public Policy and Management from the University of York, UK.
