Chuma Mguga’s career in administration has expanded in multiple academic institutions, namely the University of the Western Cape and University of Cape Town over the last 15 years.

Ms Mguga’s has had the pleasure of serving in different departments at the aforementioned academic institutions, which has equipped her with a diversity of expertise, including time management, leadership, presentation skills

Ms Mguga served as the Shop Steward at the University of the Western Cape for its Employees Union, serving the Dentistry and Community Health Sciences Faculties. She represented workers to management, wage negotiations and work conditions, well-being of workers, ensuring implementation of agreements, part of the panel of interviews, she was ensuring that the Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, has been implemented.

She has also been part of Health and Safety, responsible for identifying potential hazards, risks and dangers. Conducting health and safety audits, investigating incidents, making recommendations regarding health and safety, conducting inspections and attending health and safety committee meetings.

In her tenure at the University of the Western Cape, she has served as a member of the Senate. Accountable to the Council for regulating all teaching, learning, research and academic functions of the University and all other functions delegated or assigned by the Council.

Ms Mguga joined the School of Public Health in 2024, where she currently serves as an Assistant to the Director and provides support to the Events Coordinator and provide logistic support to date.
