Sicelosethu is currently working with Prof. Rina Swart and supporting the National Dietary Intake Survey.
Her research interest lay in maternal and child nutrition largely focusing on micronutrient nutrition. Her PhD assessed the Iodine status of pregnant women residing in Johannesburg and additionally she characterized the genetic variants in the SLC5A5 gene of the same women during lactation and investigate the relationship between selected variants with breast milk iodine concentration (BMIC).
Findings showed the iodine status of pregnant women and lactating women was slightly below recommended thresholds and further showed that variants in the SLC5A5 likely contribute to the biomagnification of iodine to breast milk.
Part of her experience covers project co-ordination, working in the area of iron and iodine status assessments and has previously been involved in HIV prevention work.
