Project Summary
To date, no investigation has been conducted to determine the profile of postgraduate students enrolling into the post graduate programmes of the School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape. In addition, the study investigates the motivation for pursuing a distance learning post-graduate qualification in public health to contribute to the body of knowledge of life-long learning and adult education.
Aims and Objective/ Expected Outcomes for Project
The aim of the study is to determine the demographic profile of the post graduate public health students and their motivation for enrolling into a post graduate programme at the School of Public Health, University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Research Objectives
- To determine the demographic profile of the post graduate students in the Master of Public Health post graduate programme
- To determine the demographic profile of the post graduate students in the Diploma of Public Health post graduate programme
- To assess if there is a difference in the demographic profiles of the two postgraduate programmes
- To describe the reasons for enrolling in a post graduate programme in public health

Key Activities
The study design is a retrospective quantitative descriptive research design using secondary data ( postgraduate students enrolled in the two postgraduate programmes, Master of Public Health and Diploma in Public Health, at the School of Public Health University of the Western Cape in the period from 2015-2018.)
