For 14 years Vera held the position of Senior Researcher at the School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

During this time she contributed significantly to the teaching and research on health equity and social determinants of health within the Primary Health Care approach, and leadership and management through a health systems lens.

Her PhD explored the interactions of health information systems and governance, in the decision-making practice of facility managers. She now works as an operational manager, exploring the opportunities for community engagement and intersectoral action for health within a district health system. She brings experiential practitioner knowledge to the programme, combining theory and practice.
