The School of Public Health (SOPH) has held a series of a sub-grants from UNICEF USA to support the health policy and systems-related work of the Countdown to 2030 programme, for the period 2017 to 2025.

The main aim of the Countdown to 2030 programme is to strengthen collaboration between academics and various UN agencies to improve the monitoring and measurement of women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health. The School of Public Health (SOPH) has held a series of a sub-grants from UNICEF USA to support the health policy and systems-related work of the Countdown to 2030 programme, for the period 2017 to 2025. These include:

• Phase 1 activities (2017 to 2020) – the Drivers Technical Working Group (Drivers TWG), revised indicators on health policy and systems; focussed  on four main work streams: digital health tools; quality improvement; adolescent health; and gender mainstreaming and contributed to the British Medical Journal (BMJ) series Leaving no woman, no child, and no adolescent behind;

• Phase 2 activities (2020 to 2022) – the Countdown to 2030 Health Policy and Systems Data & Analysis Center (DAC), supported by SOPH, developed three policy briefs, one training video, and initiated the policy analysis of Global Financing Facility analysis collaboration. In addition, SOPH provided initial technical assistance on the Maternal and Newborn Health Exemplar project.

• Phase 3 activities (2023-2025) – continued leadership of the Health Policy and Systems Data & Analysis Center..

Outputs have included:

• engagement and leadership on multiple journal supplements;
• publication of over 30 journal articles;
• conference presentations;
• representation on multiple UN technical working groups;
• the establishment of a national community of practice in India;
• the revision of the health systems indicators in the Countdown 2030 profiles;
• the development of the Countdown to 2030 Health Policy and Systems Data & Analysis Center webpage and related resources including briefs (health policy analysis, health systems analysis, and contextual factors) and a tutorial on Policy and Program Timeline;
• engagement in the WHO–UNICEF–Lancet Commission on ‘A future for the world’s children?’; and
• the establishment of the Global Financing Facility Analysis Collaboration*
