Solange Mianda is a health policy and systems researcher with a particular focus on health systems strengthening, governance and leadership, using maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health as key entry points. Her interests span capacity building for frontline health workers, health promotion, evidence synthesis, and postgraduate training. She also has emerging interests in climate and health adaptation and mitigation, as well as climate and health education.
Solange joined the School of Public Health (SOPH) as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2019 under the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Health Systems Governance. Her earlier research focused on the design of a model to strengthen clinical leadership in labour wards of district hospitals, aimed at equipping midwives to improve maternal and newborn outcomes. She co-convenes the public health research module and supports the health policy and systems research cluster.
She currently serves as a member of the BMC Health Services Research editorial board.
Her current research includes the development of a climate change and health short course for frontline healthcare workers in partnership with the Western Cape, impact of extreme heat on health and climate resilient health systems.
